We have one of those giant, oversized checks. You know the kind. The Publishers Clearing House crew shows up at your door with balloons, a camera crew, and a check so big you need a second person to hold the other end. Big smiles, big numbers, big photo op.

We almost never use it.

Most of what Klaus Team Cares does flies under the radar, and that’s on purpose. The families we help are usually walking through some of the hardest seasons of their lives, and the last thing they need is a camera in their face. So the help happens quietly, and the story stays private.

This is one of those stories. We never met her. There was no photo. Just a regular-sized check, sent through someone she already trusted.

A Grandma Who Stepped Up

There’s a grandmother here in the East Valley who took on legal guardianship of her two grandchildren. Both kids have high special needs, and she’s taking care of them with no family and no support system in place. Just her, showing up every single day.

If you’ve ever cared for a child with special needs, you know how much of life happens in the car. School drop-off and pickup. Doctor’s appointments. Therapy. Specialists. Pharmacy runs. Everything.

So when her vehicle blew a motor, it wasn’t just a car problem. It was an everything problem.

It Took a Team

The school social worker knew her situation and reached out. From there, we were able to work together and combine resources with a local church to help cover the mechanic bill. Klaus Team Cares provided a grant of $1,000 toward the repair, sent to her through the social worker.

The vehicle got fixed, and she’s once again able to get the kids to school, back home, and everywhere else they need to be.

That’s it. That’s the whole story. And honestly, it’s our favorite kind.

Why This One Matters to Us

Nobody solved this alone. A social worker who paid attention. A church that said yes. A mechanic who got the job done. And a grandma who never stopped showing up for those kids, even when the car wouldn’t.

That’s what community looks like when it works. At Klaus Team, we help people find home, but we’ve always believed home is bigger than a house. It’s the people around you who step in when life breaks down, sometimes literally.

Thank You

To the donors who allow us to offer grants. To the school social worker who made the call, and to our community partners like the church who stood alongside us: thank you. And to this grandmother: we see you. What you’re doing for your grandkids is nothing short of heroic.
